1st Quarter Meeting

July 3, 2018

7 p.m.



Call to order at 7:00 p.m. by Supervisor Solem, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. All board members were in attendance.

The 4th Quarter meeting minutes were read by Clerk Michalak. A Motion to accept the minutes by Gottschalk, support by Laman; All ayes, motion carried.

Guest- Jane Perrino from the Benzie Conservation District spoke to the services provided by the conservation district that are available to landowners. A renewal request is on the August Ballot. An increase from 1 mil to 1.25 is being requested. Ms. Perrino explained the efforts being made to keep invasive aquatic species from spreading. The BCD has 2 mobile boat washing stations to help curb the spread of invasive species.

Trustee Laman queried if the Board could endorse the Benzie Conversation District’s millage request.

Commissioner Jeannot presented his report thru 7/3/2018. Of note: The BOC is considering hiring their own staff to service the Benzie County Veterans. The Benzie and Frankfort school districts are requesting a millage in August for up to .225 mils for 4 years.


COMMUNICATIONS

Supervisor Solem shared a letter received from a resident referencing the ORV usage and the Accident that happened on Oviatt Rd. The residents’ concern is at CR 677 and Oviatt Rd.

Supervisor Solem read a letter from the DNR that a Forestry Management presentation will be held on July 10th from 4 to 7 pm at the district office located at 2122 S M-37

A permit from the DNR has been received authorizing culvert replacementwith a timber frame at the Hooker Rd Skinner Rd. creek crossing.

REPORTS

  1. The first brine has been completed.

  2. Assessor report- random assessments will be made this summer. The State of Michigan requires a percentage of properties to be assessed each year.

  3. Hazardous waste- dates are July 14 and August 4. Appointments are required.

New Business

  1. The L-4029 has been received. The millage amounts to be levied for next year are correct and will be filed with the County Treasurer and Equalization Department.

  2. Election updates- clerk solicited for inspectors and reminded all to vote on August 7

OLD BUSINESS

1. Treasurer reports that she has purchased the new laptop, software and BSA support service to implement the new tax requirements.

2. A dividend of $93.00 has been received from the insurance company.




CLERK AND TREASURER OPERATING STATEMENTS

A Motion by Laman with support by Gottschalk to accept the clerks operating statement as presented; motion carried; all ayes.

A Motion Gottschalk with support by Solem to approve the payment of 1st quarter bills; motion carried, all ayes.

A Motion by Michalak with support by solem to accept the treasurers’ statement as presented; motion carried, all ayes.

A MOTION to adjourn at 8:28 by Wieber with support by .Solem; motion carried; all ayes
